Desktop

Photoshop

  • select color from canvas
    • win: Alt + Click (with Brush tool active)
    • macOS: Option + Click
  • assign a key to foreground color picker to show the color picker
  • toggle foreground and background: X

Clip Studio Paint

  • select color from canvas
    • win: Alt + Click
    • macOS: Option + Click
  • assign a key to foreground color picker to show the color picker:
    • win: Alt + K
    • macOS: Option + K
  • toggle foreground and background: X

Krita

  • many dockers related to color:
    • small color selector
    • advanced color selector
    • artistic color selector
    • gamut masks (use to set a color mask for the artistic color selector)
  • select color from canvas:
    • macOS: Command + Click
  • show color selector: Shift + I
  • toggle foreground and background: X

Autodesk Sketchbook

  • color related dockers:
    • Color Editor
    • Copic Library
  • you can choose a random color in the color editor
    • you can configure the HSL range in which the colors stay
    • the color is changed every time you click/dab with your pencil
  • select color from canvas
    • macOS: Option + Click or I + Click (drag to zoom over the area your try to pick color from)

iPad

Procreate

  • color dialog can be dragged on the canvas since Procreate 5
  • you can configure how to select the color from canvas in Actions > Prefs > Gesture controls > Eyedropper

ArtStudio Pro

  • you can show the color toolbar on the left, in default view
  • change what is displayed via: View > Color Toolbar
  • set Artstudio > Preferences > Apple Pencil/Third Party Stylus > Apple Pencil > Finger Function When Pencil Is Connected to Eyedropper (Finger & Pencil)
    • use the finger or finger and pencil to select color from canvas
    • it might be better to configure the finger to change brush opacity and size
  • you can also use the eyedropper tool when in default view or painting mode view

Infinite Painter

  • drag the color wheel with 2 finger to detach it and position it on the canvas
    • drag it to the central “x” to hide it
  • click on the color button to show the color editor
    • the color editor has a small eyedropper icon that you can put in the custom button bar if you long press on it and then drag it to the button bar
  • keep a finger on the color button and click on the canvas with the pencil to select a color from the canvas

Craft Pro

  • tap and hold on thumb bar and pick colors with the pencil
  • hold one finger on the canvas
  • you can make the color picker dialog show on the canvas, too

Autodesk Sketchbook

  • color picker can be shown by clicking the color puck
  • you can choose a random color in the color editor
    • you can configure the HSL range in which the colors stay
    • the color is changed every time you click/dab with your pencil
  • long press with pencil of finger to select color from canvas
  • swipe up with 3 finger to show the color editor
    • configurable via the preferences
