Day 4 of Week 6 of The Art & Science of Drawing was all about cross contours: what they are, how to draw them on an apple and how to draw them.
Cross contour lines
- essentially longitude and latitude lines that go over the surface of your object
- are very good at conveying volume
- usually don’t exist on your object, though you can imply them
The Assignment
- extra materials: an apple and a permanent marker
- draw cross contour lines on your apple using the permanent marker
- draw the apple a minimum of 3 times, with the apple positioned differently for each drawing
- extra challenge: draw cross contour lines from an apple that doesn’t have the cross contour lines drawn on it
- extra challenge: draw cross contour lines for some complex object
