After some browsing through my lists with saved courses from Skillshare, I’ve decided to start the day with a charcoal one. The luck winner was: Beginners Charcoal Drawing: Make your first drawing with willow charcoal by Shellie Cleaver.
Shellie presents an interesting technique that I don’t remember seeing before:
- put some ligth landmarks on the page with the vine charcoal
- wipe them with a paper tissue so they leave some bearely visible dots
- measure, compare and add new light landmarks, improving their location and increasing their number and density
- repeat the process a couple of times
- when you think you’re ready, start adding lines and do the final drawing
After following along with the charcoal techniques presented by Shellie, I’ve jumped right into the homework, by returning again to the shipwreck from yesterday.
After taking a photo of the drawing and started preparing my Skillshare project for the class, I’ve discovered that the main mast was missing some details and the whole drawing was a bit empty because of that. So after some deliberation with myself, I’ve decided to put the paper back on the drawing board and try to fix it. I think it went ok, as I like it more now…

- Tombow Mono Zero eraser
- wrapping paper 55gsm
