Again burning midnight oil - at least I’ve managed to do it. On today’s menu we’ve had curves, curves, and more curves.

Axis lines

Learn how to recognize ellipse’s axis.

Translating curves into angles

  • begin with the line that joins the start and end of your curve
  • try to draw some tangents that describe the overall shape of your curve
  • try to draw tangent lines to the start and end
  • add more tangents to refine the linear representation
  • when you have enough tangents, draw the line
    • avoid using scratchy lines
    • try to use long lines, by first ghosting before drawing

Eggs

  • start with a light circle
  • draw an axis
  • try to draw the narrower end now, by ghosting around the axis
  • enforce the contour of the egg

Bending basic shapes

  • practiced bending rectangles and ovoids

The assignment

  • draw a curved line on the left, then copy it on the right by breaking it down into basic angles
  • draw 100 freestyle forms, using light, fluid lines
